I Like Big Buns and I Cannot Lie

The weather in Seattle plays tricks on you. It might look sunny and warm out there, but in reality it's 45 degrees with a wind chill coming in at 12-15 miles per hour hitting you in the face like a dry snowball. It's really no good and you would think after four years of residence here I would have learned that winter means dressing in layers and wearing earmuffs. Alas, this is not the case. Today I tried out a new hairstyle. It was fun and turned out pretty well... Until I went outside and thought my ears were going to freeze off. Friends, it's both a blessing and a curse to have long hair. The blessing is that it keeps your face/ears/neck warm in the winter when you wear it down. The curse is that it gets pulled and yanked and stuck on/in/around things like coats, bags, backpacks, bus seats, and the like. Wanting to avoid the frequent pain I normally tolerate pretty well when I wear my hair down, I decided to put it up today in a fun bun. What is a fun bun, you ask? Well, let me show you!
Behold the fun bun. It's big. I like big buns. I have a lot of hair so a big bun is impossible to avoid. I like to enhance the bun by backcombing the hair before twisting it up. Mmhmm. I'm that girl. You know, the one you can't sit behind because her hair blocks the screen from every angle. I feel no remorse. I'm short (though I prefer the word "petite") and therefore get stuck behind tall people's heads blocking the screen all the time. No big deal.
Here's a fuzzy picture of the back of the fun bun. Ooh it's even more fun now isn't it?
Here's a perspective shot, so you can see the bun in relation to the rest of my head and shoulders. After I completed the bun I was nervous it was too high. There is a fine line between a fun bun and an off beat top knot. The top knot wasn't appropriate for the events on my agenda today. But I wasn't really up for redoing the bun, so I wore it as is. I got a compliment too. You might ask if the braid around the bun is my real hair. Indeed it is. I french braided up the back of my head (which is much harder than you would expect) and continued with a regular braid after I reached the point where I wanted the pony. After completing the bun, backcombing and all, I wrapped the braid around the base and secured it with pins. A light mist of Kenra hairspray and the fun bun was ready for show.

Do you do any fun buns?

In other news, remember those onions I plopped in water last week? Look at how they've grown!

I had to move them into our bedroom window (south facing) so they could get better light.
I think I'll move them to a mason jar soon... and harvest them.

OMgosh Kenz... you never cease to amaze me with your hair'do's'.... You must have a ton of time in the A.M. to be able to do this.. but then again, you texted me at the crack of dawn this morning so you must have planned to be up extremely early to work on your hair. :D Are you sure you don't want to 'dabble' with a writing future? You could be a cazillionaire like JK Rowlings one day ! Just puttin it out there babydoll! xoxo Love love love ya! fAB HAIR TODAY BTW! Harvest time for onions soon? Cut the green parts into small pieces and dry them for onion flavoring and color in soups etc. :)

  2. Your bun is amazeballs! Going to attempt it, minus the French Braid up the back, because I don't have time! Holler for Seattle, I'm originally from Puyallup, but bringing the rainy state style to Des Moines, Iowa :)
